We offer an in-house painting service with the following options using a choice of sprayed finished paints.

We use Teknos Aquaprimer 2901  and Aquatop 2600 topcoat paints. We follow their strict guidlines. Which include endgrain sealer.

For painted joinery please use the Teknos colour chart, alternatively we can match a colour from the RAL or Farrow & Ball colour charts. We can supply you windows painted or stained with other manufacturers if required, please see below.

1. Supply only your joinery so you can paint it yourself.
2. Primer only, which means that we have prepared all the surfaces ready for your top coat.(please note that primer will require a topcoat to make it weatherproof)
3. Prime and standard white top coat RAL 9010 
4. Prime and coloured top coat of customers choice
5. Osmo oil applied by brush on Oak
6. Oil based stains applied by brush ( i.e. Sadolins )

It is most important to paint your joinery before installation. This will help to maintain the life of the joinery. 

• Remove all hardware especially window fittings and door handles.  Carefully wrap them in paper to avoid scratches.
• Remove draught seals with the help of a putty knife or similar.
• Apply knotting before priming (check with paint supplier)
• Apply end grain sealer (check with paint supplier)
• Paint all edges, even the ones that you cannot see i.e. glazing rebates, ends of beads, top and bottom of doors. Failure to do this will result in water ingress which will swell timber and effect doors and casements being tight and difficult to open. It may also break down your double glazing.
• Follow paint manufacturers instructions as some paints and stains need a basecoat or primer.
• Once you have painted your joinery it can then be fitted. Refit seals and hardware.
• It can now be glazed to fitting guidelines.
• It is recommended that once the joinery is fitted and glazed a final top coat of paint is applied. This will help seal all the joints.
• Regular maintenance is important to maintain the look of your joinery.

Primer

Anti stain aqua 2901 is a  single component water borne acrylic primer Suitable soft or hard wood species, certified use for Accoya, resists staining on hardwood, applied in two coats, excellent flexibility and may be over coated with a variety of topcoats.

There may be a maximum time-frame within which a topcoat should be applied over the primer after the primer dries, in order to achieve maximum performance. Depending on the primer, the next coat of paint should be applied as quickly as 24 hours or as long as two weeks if kept dry.

Primer is not formulated to stand up to the elements and should be topcoated to ensure proper bonding. ... Also, primer comes with a flat sheen to promote bonding between the substrate and top coat, which does not hold up as well to sun, rain, and dirt as satin or glossy paints.

Dark Colour Topcoat

Very dark colours, such as black, have high heat absorption in direct sunlight and at high temperatures, resin bleed and surface checking can cause problems with some timber species, requiring more frequent maintenance.

Some hardwood timbers naturally exude tannins, while softwood knots may bleed tannin or exude resins. Both can stain the topcoat, and liquid resin may seep through the coating leaving a sticky residue on the surface. These problems, normally seen after installation, can be aesthetically unappealing but rarely detract from coating performance. Minor repairs can easily be carried out, restoring the appearance and integrity of the coating, by following Teknos’ maintenance guidelines.
